I have written extensively on how both small cells and Wi-Fi are needed to provide the capacity boost we need to meet the rapidly growing traffic load, and mostly expounded on the strategic and deployment merits of the argument. But any decision about how small cells and Wi-Fi will coexist in the sublayer depends to a great extent on the underlying economics.

I will be in Dallas next week for the LTE North America conference and look forward to seeing you at the analyst breakfast on Wednesday 14 at 8:00am. It will be on small-cell backhaul.
Also, you can set up some time to meet during the analyst clinic on Thursday 15 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.

When the issue of mobile security comes up, most of the time it is about the mobile devices. Yet, there is another side to mobile security. It is the mobile network itself.

Mobile networks are becoming primarily data networks, moving to a flatter and more open architecture that is inherently more vulnerable to security threats. See our new white paper on this topic.

Is the signaling traffic from BlackBerries, iPhones, and Android smartphones creating just as much congestion in cellular networks as actual data traffic is? There is considerable disagreement among those that I talk to, and mobile operators are not too keen to share data–but it is a topic you are likely to hear more about in the future as the implications of signaling traffic in networks dominated by data traffic become better understood.
