White paper on GSM-over-IP for RadioFrame Networks
We have recently finished a white paper on behalf of RadioFrame Networks entitled "The case for GSM-over-IP for mobile operators", which outlines the value proposition of GSM femto-cells located at home or in the office that provide local coverage using GSM spectrum and use a broadband connection for backhaul. The approach is similar to that used by UMA, except that GSM is used instead of using Wi-Fi as the edge technology. There has been a great interest recently in this type of solution as it allows mobile operators to compete more effectively against fixed operators and VoIP service providers, and offer better residential coverage and attractive new services (e.g. lower cost or flat fee plans when calling from home or from the office, similar to O2's Genion service in Germany).
